Okay, time for a re-write, it's been a few years...
"Sloom" is the name of a jam we did. The Grubs was a trio that came together by way of that gravity that large masses of ego, passion and "talent" tend to have, and from time to time come crashing together for better or worse. Martin Baker, John Provost and I hung out and played music / didn't play music together / apart in various guises from '94 until 200, most consistant of which was The Grubs. "Valentine" and "Up From the Depths", posted here, come from that enduring and arduuous effort. The rest of the exisitng, scrappy material here comes after, influenced to some degree by that intense and fertile episode in our lives.
Martin died of brain cancer in 2000. John and I continued for several years after, mostly playing paying gigs- cover tunes in the jazz, folk, reggae and other 'roots' genres. We've since gone our ways, but the influences that remain are like peas in the princess' matress, undeniable and indelible.
Anyhoo, here's sopme stuff, in it's rawness. It's a beginning to an undercurrent of desire that's finally trying to surface. Some of us are late-bloomers. Thanks for listening in a minute.
